NBC's School Pride Premieres

NBC's School Pride Premieres

Hot on the heels of all the buzz surrounding the education-focused documentary Waiting for Superman, the new NBC reality show School Pride (premiering Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET) is giving schools across the country a facelift -- and hopefully giving its students a renewed sense of pride.

In a twist on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (both shows share executive producer Denise Cramsey), teachers, students, parents and community members come together to renovate their aging public schools. Like Extreme Makeover, which completely transforms people's homes, School Pride will rebuild entire schools -- from basketball courts to classrooms -- in just a little more than a week. Along with a physical makeover, the community will also work on improving their self-esteem about their school. Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines also executive produces.

Helping out with the schools' revamps is interior designer and former MTV VJ Susie Castillo, comedian and former substitute teacher Kym Whitley, journalist Jacob Soboroff and the leader of the team, Tom Stroup.

School Pride will travel to communities across the U.S., from Baton Rouge, La., to Los Angeles. Watch an exclusive sneak peek of the show above, with a special introduction from Cheryl Hines. In our opinion, any opportunity to make kids feel good about learning -- even if it means a revamp of their science room --  is a positive one.

'School Pride' premieres Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET
